Part of the River Valley Justice Center, this 102 bed Juvenile Detention Center is located in Joliet, Illinois. Developed as a joint venture between Will and Kankakee Counties, RVDC is a temporary placement center for juveniles, between the ages of ten and seventeen, awaiting court decisions on their cases. Only minors who have allegedly committed a delinquent offense may be detained. To be detained, a juvenile must be:
While in secure detention, juveniles participate in the Juvenile Education program as well as a wide variety of Programming conducted by both the Juvenile Detention Staff and Community Social Service Groups. During the year 2024, the Detention Center admitted a total of 284 juveniles, of which 189 were from Will County, 57 were from Kankakee County and 38 were from other Illinois Counties. Of all 284 intakes, 205 were males and 79 were females. The average age of all intakes was 15.57 years. (males 15.84, females 14.87)
